FAQ
Q: What is a niggun?
A: Niggunim (plural) are wordless melodies (think “lai-dai-dai”) passed down as a Jewish oral tradition.
Q: Do I need to know Hebrew to participate?
A: Absolutely not!
Q: Do I need to be musical to participate?
A: Absolutely not!
Q: What will happen at a niggun circle?
A: We will learn a niggun related to where we are in the Jewish calendar. Then we will learn a related Jewish text and discuss it while noshing on some snacks. Afterwards, the singing will continue, with time for anyone to teach a niggun if they have one to share.
Q: Who is this for?
A: This event is for Jews of all backgrounds! We are particularly excited to serve Jews who have historically not had access to traditional Jewish singing spaces (e.g., women, queer & trans Jews, Jews of color, etc.) Please be mindful of this history in deciding how much aural space to take up.
Q: How accessible will this event be for me given that I have a (child / allergy / wheelchair / kashrut practice)?
A: Kids of all ages are welcome; pets are unfortunately not invited. Foods will be hechshered and labeled with their allergens. Please message us to discuss any disability-related accommodations.
Q: I want to come! What’s the address?
A: Great! Please enter your email at the bottom of this page, and we’ll send you the address (not listed publicly since it is a private home.)
